What an honor to interview Rick Hanson the author of another great book entitled “Hardwiring Happiness“. My last interview with Rick was for his book “Just One Thing, Developing A Buddha Brain One Simple Practice at a Time”.
In our interview together we get to dialogue about how our brains are not really hardwired for happiness, and how to use various practices that will help us to rewire our brains for happiness. Rick explains the “three” layers of the brain which I think is fascinating and allows us to better understand the “why” behind our inability to just get happy. One of his practices Rick has developed, and he uses the acronym “HEAL” , which stand for Have, Enrich, Absorb and Link. This is a simple process developed to awaken us so we can reprogram our brains for happiness.
Another simple process he discusses in our inteview is just taking the time to notice our positive experiences. This might sound simple but when was the last time that we took a few minutes to just bask in the awe of one of our happy moments. As Rick states this helps us to reprogram the brains to better be wired to happiness. I can not guarantee that we will all become Dalai Lama’s after listening to my interview with Rick, but it will put you on the right track to greater levels of happiness.

I was so pleased with my first interview with Matthew Fox that I invited him back to do another interview. As many of you are aware he is a prolific author with 28 titles to his name. While I am unable to interview him for all of his works, I chose to focus on a book entitled ” The Hidden Spirituality of Men” which intrigued me.
In this interview with Matthew we discuss the the current troubles that are plaguing our planet, and the role that our male dominated society has played in many of the issues and challenges our world is faced with. In “The Hidden Spirituality of Men” Matthew is awakening the worldviews for men by providing ten metaphors to awaken what he calls “the sacred masculine”. He also includes models of sacred marriage, showing how partnerships with the feminine becomes the ultimate expression of masculinity.
I encourage my listeners to take a deep dive, and really understand the sacred masculine. If we shift our worldviews and better understand how we behave and treat the planet, we can make a transformation for the better allowing us to awaken to living in harmony with mother earth.

In Naomi Bergers new book entitled “Marriage Meeting for Lasting Love” Naomi provide the reader with very sound advice with regarding a process she refers to as the “marriage meetings”. This is simply a defined meeting time weekly set weekly where we meet with our significant other using a set of guidelines to have a 30-45 minute dialogue. She suggests following an agenda 1) Expressing Appreciation 2) Coordinating Chores 3) Planning for Good Times 4) Addressing Problems and Challenges.
Naomi has been using this process in our counseling practice for years, and the results from her clientele has been amazing. I was recently sent a book called “Smart Change” by Art Markman professor of Psychology at the University of Texas which I believe could be a game changer.
We have all read books on how to change, as a matter of fact that is what most of the personal growth books are attempting to get us to do. “Smart Change” is attempting to do the same, but in a way that I believe can and will work if people apply the simple strategies that Art talks about in our interview.

The most important tool Art refers in his book he refers to as “Tame the Go System.” This is where you identify the triggers of habits, replace old behaviors with new ones, and generate specific plans to deal with the obstacles. This single idea worth the price of the book.

I recently had the honor of interviewing my good friend Steven Kotler and an amazing resource on learning how to “hack flow”. Steven has just released a new book, hot off the press called ” The Rise of Superman”.

I had a wonderful interview with author Tobin Hart the author of a new book entitled ” The Four Virtues-Presence, Heart, Wisdom and Creation.”
As Tobin states ” The world is, quite frankly a mess. People are stressed, depressed, lost and scared.” While this is a great observation of what is happening in our world, most of us are looking for tools and want to learn a new ways to live our lives so that we can cope and thrive in these very unusual times.
In Tobin’s book ” The Four Virtues.”, the reader is exposed to simple yet practical practices to create awareness about what steps they can adopt to better cope during turbulent and changing times. Each chapter provides brief yet insightful quizzes to engage our minds and hearts into questioning how we are living our lives, and what practices could be adopted to shift our behaviors. These new behaviors are certain to help remove the stress, depression and aloneness to create a sense and new aliveness in our lives.
I would encourage everyone to listen too, read and practice some or all of the recommended practices if they are interested in transforming their lives and consciousness.
