It seems as if in North America 90% of the population is either on a diet or considering some new fangled solution to shed those extra pounds.  Is it more exercise and less calories as we have been told for years.  It is less carbohydrates and more protein.  Regardless of the strategy you are using according to my Yuri Elkaim the author of a new book entitled “The All-Day Fat-Burning Diet” we need to reset our bodies metabolism.

Yes, we have heard this advice before as well, but not in conjunction with what Yuri refers to as a 5 day food cycling formula which includes one day of fasting.  In Yuri’s book he discusses what he refers to as “Fat Triggers”.

Fat Trigger #1: Allergenic Foods that Cause Inflammation.  What are they usually they are dairy and gluten, Yuri say that everyone that eliminates these foods from their diet will see a change in their waistline.

Fat Trigger#2: A Sedentary Lifestyle and Exercise Extremism.  Keep your body moving, but not too much.  In other words exercise is very important for your overall bodies health, but excessive exercise is unnecessary and can have adverse effects.

Fat Trigger #3 Toxins.  Toxins have an inverse relationship with thyroid hormone function, so as levels of toxins in the body go up, levels of biologically active thyroid hormone, T3, go down.

Fat Trigger #4: Deadly Belly Bugs.  Your gut health is the biggest determining factor of your overall health.  Microorganisms communicate with your immune system to help keep you healthy.  Dysbiosis, is the imbalance of good to bad bacteria–this is a big problem in today’s excessively celan, sugar-laden and antibiotic happy world.

Fat Trigger #5: Sugar Overload.  Sugar makes you fat because it’s quickly broken down and its glucose component spikes your blood sugar.  As a result, insulin is released to remove all the excess sugar from the blood, and it’s stored in your muscles, liver, and fat cells.

Fat Trigger #6: Too Much “Frankenfood”.  Much of our ultimate behavior has to do with dopamine centers in the brain.  Dopamine is a neurotransmitter intimately involved with rewards which leads us to choose the wrong foods that are high in fat and calories but with little nutritional value.

Brad Gruno is the real deal. Here is a man on a mission to help people become aware of the foods they are putting in their bodies. Brad is the founder of Brad’s Raw Foods, and the author of an amazing new book entitled ” Brad’s Raw Made Easy”.

This book is not only an amazing story about Brad and how he founded his company, but about his personal story about being out of shape, overweight and not healthy when he found a “raw food diet”. A raw food diet might not be for everyone, but after reading his book I am certain that we will have a lot more converts.

In my interview with Brad we explore the benefits associated with a raw food diet, while discussing some of the incredibly delicious recipes that are a large part of the book. The more you begin to understand that the processed foods that make up a large part of the American diet are what are making this country sick, tired and almost dead—you just might want to reconsider a raw food diet or something close.

I hope you enjoy this lively and engaging interview with and author and health food advocate who’s products are raw, healthy while being delicious at the same time.

The larger question is how prepared are you for the changes that could occur at or near your home? “Common Sense in Uncommon Times” is a wonderful guide for anyone wanting to understand how they can be better prepared. The book is loaded with website resources, lists and information on topics which are imperative for ones survival during a catastrophic event.

I recently attended a meeting for a company called Velara Global in Newport Beach, CA.  I happen to hear Dr. Dennis Black speak about health, nutrition and the American diet.  I was so impressed with his presentation that I invited him to be a guest on Inside Personal Growth.

In my interview with Dr. Black we discuss how our bodies set homeostasis, and ways that we can reset the default both in our brains and through our bodies.  We also speak about the excessive ingestion of sugars and carbohydrates that American’s consume, and effective way to reduce and or eliminate our cravings for sugars in our diets.

Dr. Black is a huge advocate of paying attention to our digestive tract—it is the largest organ in our body and when our colon becomes unhealthy through eating a diet rich in fats, meats and refined sugars we need to cleanse the colon and eliminate the undigested foods.

In our interview you will hear us discuss the use of alkaline water as a way to keep our bodies toxic free and as a mechanism to  help prevent and reduce the acidity in our bodies through which cancer thrive.

Dr. Kelly Traver is the author of a new book entitled “The Healthiest You-Take Charge of Your Brain to Take Charge of You Life”.  I recently interviewed her about her book and her 12-week program.

In our interview together we discuss what she refers to as one of the most important elements in changing your health, and that is to understand how your your brain works.

Her approach is certainly not the typical diet, exercise approach and don’t misunderstand it is more than just learning to understand how your brain works, but this is extremely important element.

Kelly states in the book that our brains are capable of substantial change.  At any age you can learn, you can grow,  and you can improve your skills for living a healthier and happier life.

“Your hypothalamus, is the center of your brain, it is the master controller of homeostasis—it controls things like hunger, thirst, and body temperature.  Your brain will automatically resist a sudden change in your behavior or routine.  In Kelly’s book she shows you how to make those changes, and more importantly she teaches you how your brain functions.

I hope you enjoy this very informative interview with Dr. Kelly Traver.

I recently conducted a great interview with James Colquhoun the co-author of the book “Hungry for Change” as well as the movie by the same title.

In our interview together we discuss the challenges that our population is faced with as it relates to manufactured foods, diets, nutrition and even the politics of nutrition in America.

As James states in the book “Why do we believe that we can feed our bodies manufactured, nutrient-depleted, food-like substances, empty of all life , and yet remain healthy?.  How did we come to believe that industrial chemicals and processing could replace what nature products?  The answer is it can’t.

The food industry—which is the second-largest employer in the United States, after the federal government, and which heavily influence both the media and the government agencies that regulate it—intentionally confuses and confounds us.   These foods are full of chemicals, and believe me they are not good for us.

If you want to learn what type of foods to eat, and eliminate of diets that don’t work then I recommend that you listen to this interview with James Calquhoun.

In my interview with Dr. Jamie Koufman the author of “Dropping Acid-The Reflux Diet Cookbook and Cure I learned more about acid reflux and it causes, and the alarming rate of the disease in our country.

Dr. Koufman reported to me that over 100 million suffer from acid reflux and over half of them don’t even know they have it.  Over the past decades, reflux has become one of the most widespread and misunderstood preventable diseases of our Western civilization. People who suffer from acid reflux  are being  treated with over the counter and prescription drugs when in most cases the disease can be cured by changing the our diet.

Dr. Koufman has been able to help her patients overcome the disease.  She advocates a two-week detox program consisting of low-acid, low-fat, pH-Balanced diet and this has been a resounding success for hundreds of her patients.

If you want to learn about the causes and cures I highly recommend that you listen to this podcast, and read her new book.

Everyone needs to be more concerned and informed on what foods to consume. So much is in the news about GMO’s, and rightfully so.  We are the only nation that does not require labeling for GMO’s in our foods.

In my interview with Jayson and Mira Calton both leading experts in the field of nutrition we discuss their new book entitled ” Rich Food, Poor Food”.  We have a lively discussion about the growing concern over GMO foods, as well learning about nutrient rich foods—those dark leafy green vegetables which are so good for us.

Jayson and Mira have created a book that is not only informative, but quite useful.  They have created the “Ultimate Grocery Purchasing System” and the book guides the reader through what foods to say clear of and what foods will enrich and provide the highest level of nutrition.

I hope you enjoy this interview with Jayson and Mira—-if you want more information please click here to be directed to their website.

You can also watch the video interview below in which they discuss common ingredients which are definitely not good for you.
