Stefan Ripich M.D. I recently had the honor of interviewing a physician by the name of Dr. Stefan Ripich who has published a book entitled, “The 30 Day Diabetes Cure“.   It is certainly not new to anyone who has read a newspaper or watched the evening news to know that diabetes in our country is out of control.  Diabetes is now the fastest spreading disease in human history. Its incidence around the world had doubled in the past two decades, prompting the World Health Organization to declare it a global pandemic.

Dr. Ripich combines both Western and Eastern western medicine in treating people with diabetes.  He has distilled his treatment down into a simple step by step approach for 30 days.

1)  Dr. Ripich suggest is that we take a break from sugar.  Americans consume, on average, 170 pounds of sugar per person per  year.  2) Add cinnamon for lower blood sugar.  The US Agricultural Research Service says less that half a teaspoon of cinnamon daily reduces blood sugar levels in people with Type 2 diabetes. 3) Drink lots of water-Drinking plenty of water is still tops when it comes to staying hydrated without adding your health troubles or weight. 4) Eliminate all of the “Fast Carbs”-One of the single most important things you can do to quickly lower your blood sugar and reduce your weight to stop eating bread, baked goods and other “fast carbs”. 5) Eat a diabetes healing breakfast-If you ask an overweight person if he or she eats breakfast, and the answer is usually no.  Ask a fit, trim healthy person and you’ll virtually always hear an enthusiastic “yes”.

Dr. Ripich’s new book, “The 30 Day Diabetes Cure” is a must read for anyone who is interested in improving their health.  I personally believe that everyone should read this book even if you are not diabetic.  The information contained, could prevent a person from becoming diabetic.

I thoroughly enjoyed my interview with Dr. Ripich, and I know you are going to appreciate the wisdom that he imparts throughout our interview together.  Dr. Ripich also has a website with lots of information and videos that one should watch if you are investigating diabetes cures.  You can link to Dr. Ripich’s website by clicking here.

Enjoy this wonderful interview with a very knowledgeable physician.

John RobbinsI have been an admirer of John Robbins for many years.  I first heard him speak in San Francisco in 2003 just after my oldest son Sean was diagnosed with Leukemia.  We took a trip to San Fransisco to attend a Green Conference where John was speaking about his book “The Food Revolution“.  It was this speech that made such an impact on both my son and myself that we altered our diets significantly in an effort to improve our health and be more environmentally sensitive.  I am proud to report that John’s message indelibly impacted our family contributing to our families improved health today.

John’s new book entitled ” The New Good Life” is probably one of the best books that I have ever read on living a life on less without the sacrifice.  The New Good Life is the path from conspicuous consumption to conscious consumption.  He advocates taking an active role in becoming  more aware of your purchases, and differentiate between your needs and wants.  Those of us who live in the United States for the most part have had plenty, and the previous consumptive patterns have helped to lead the current ecological and economic challenges we are faced with today.

As a result of our consumptive patterns I believe that we  need to look more closely at the choices we make when we purchase something,  and shift toward conscious consumption.  As John articulates in “The New Good Life” his life shifted significantly when he woke up one day last December to realize that 95% of his entire fortune disappeared as a result of his assets being mismanaged on Wall Street.

This book is as much about John’s personal journey, and how to learn to live on less while appreciating life.  It is a passionate manifesto on finding meaning beyond money, while delivering a sound blueprint for living well on less.  John teaches you how to create your own definition of success based on your deepest beliefs and life experiences, alleviate depression and stay fit with inexpensive alternative for high cost medicine, develop a diet that promotes better health and saves money, and how to protect yourself from future economic catastrophes.

The New Good Life” is a must read for anyone suffering through this economic downturn.  It is wonderfully written and extremely enlightening.

I highly recommend that you visit John’s website by clicking here and check out all of the cool resources as well as his videos.  Enjoy this great interview with a man on a mission to help people, help themselves while helping save planet earth!!!!

Thomas MooreI recently had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with Thomas Moore at the Hay House “I Can Do It” Conference here in San Diego.  As a result of my meeting with Thomas we scheduled this interview, and it was truly an honor to be able to do this podcast with him.

In Thomas Moore’s new book entitled, “Care of the Soul in Medicine“, he speaks about how our current health-care system is not structured around compassionate medicine where doctor and nurses are addressing the spirit and soul of healing.  Doctors and other medical professionals are trained to treat the body part or organ, and not the whole person.  Despite the scientific advancements of modern medicine, the hospital can be a cold, sterile environment–and for that reason alone, people are not finding overall health and well being in many of our health centers.

In our interview together, Thomas also addresses a very interesting factor associated with the blessing of illness.  Now this might initially seem counter intuitive, but really  its not.  According to Thomas, most people that go through a life threatening illness have the opportunity to have an awakening and reassess how they are living their lives.  They can change their current life course, and alter their lives forever  for the better. So  from this prospective, a life threatening illness can be considered a tremendous blessing.

Moore emphasizes that the future of medicine is not just in technical advancements to improve the healing process.  It is appreciating the state of the soul and spirit in illness and redefining the way in which the patient is cared for.  Much of  Moore’s personal quest  in life has been in helping define the what the soul is and the importance of addressing the soul in the healing process.  Many practices address the body, mind and spirit but seldom do you hear health care practitioners  addressing the issues of the soul.

I encourage you to listen to this wonderful interview with a heartfelt, kind and compassionate man who has truly identified and defined the role that the soul has in our healing process.  Thomas Moore has a wonderful website you can access by clicking here and if you want to watch a recent interview on the Today Show about “The Care of the Soul In Medicine” please click here.  Enjoy this great interview.

Chunyi LinI had the honor of interviewing Chunyi Lin one of the foremost masters on the practice of Qigong.  I know many of you have seen people in the park or possibly on the health channel performing the practice of Qigong and all of the associated methodically movements, and you just might be wondering what it is all about?

According to Chunyi Lin and his book and audio program entitled, “Spring Forest Fundamentals-Unlocking Your Healing Energy: A Simple Guide to Experiencing Optimal Health and Wellness,”  Qigong is the study of energy and since everything is a form of energy, Qigong it is the study of the whole universe, including physics, chemistry, psychology, biology, astrology, electricity and medicine.

In China, the ancient art of Qigong has been practiced for many different purposes for thousands of years and the benefits are as many as there are aspects of life.  The Spring Forest Qigong focus is the use of Qigong for healing.

In my interview with Chunyi Lin the Master Qigong teacher, we discuss the importance of getting the movement of energy flowing and releasing the points of blockage.  Chunyi Lin states that there are six main causes of energy blockages: 1) Unbalanced Emotion, 2) Nutrition 3) Weather and Seasons 4) Environment 5) Wrong medications 6) Injury. The active exercises to help release the blockages are like moving meditations. They strengthen our physical energy and help to open all of the energy channels in the body.  They help bring our Yin and Yang energy back into balance, get rid of energy blockages and develop our spiritual energy so that we can heal physically, mentally and spiritually at the same time.

I encourage you to listen to this wonderful podcast with a master in the art and practice of Qigong.  The Spring Forest techniques will certainly heal you, and bring more peace into your life.

If you want to learn more about the Spring Forest Qigong programs I would recommend that you visit the Spring Forest website by clicking here.  Enjoy this wonderful interview with author and master Qigong teacher Chunyi Lin.

Caroline M. Sutherland I was recently invited to attend the “I Can Do It” Conference hosted by the Hay House.  It was a wonderful event attended by some of the best authors that Hay House has published.  I had the good fortune of being able to meet Caroline Sutherland.  Caroline is a medical intuitive who has completed hundreds of reading over the years and she did an intuitive health reading on me which I found to be very accurate.

In my interview with Caroline we discuss her new book entitled, “The Body Knows-How to Stay Young”.  In our interview together we explore the many reasons that our bodies breakdown and what we can do and how we can arrest the breakdown process.

One of the areas that we explore is our hormonal system.  As Sutherland says, “hormones are chemical messengers that course through the blood stream interfacing between cells delivering messages and information. These messengers are secreted by the endocrine system. The function of each gland, from the thyroid, parathyroid, pituitary, hypothalamus, pineal gland, as well as the function of female or male reproductive organs, are mediated by hormone delivery and information. Most people think that their hormones are located in their pelvis but these master endocrine glands are actually located in the head.”

Your entire body is dependent on proper hormone function and we would die within minutes without hormones. Hormones work together in a concert. When one is “off” this will affect all the rest. Balancing is key and with hormones, less is more.  Balancing the hormonal system is only one very important key to greater vitality and health.

Caroline says that from her medical intuitive perspective, she has found that when a particular decision is made in life, that it must be fully embodied and accepted by the person on all levels or physical symptoms will likely manifest. This is due to the misalignment of the rational mind and the knowing heart.

For example, if the decision is made to stay in an unhappy relationship, a dissatisfying job, or to adopt certain lifestyle choice, sexual preference, etc., no matter what the head is saying, the heart and every cell in the body “knows” that it must be in agreement or it is living a lie.

Emotions and decisions that are operating at cross-purposes within can play a huge role in illness and chronic symptoms.  Do all that you can to examine the depth of emotion that you carry and use this as a tool to strengthen yourself on all levels.

In Caroline’s new book “The Body Knows How to Stay Young” she explores the many facets of staying young and healthy.  Her website is loaded with video’s, articles and a products store.  If you would like more information on Caroline’s upcoming appearances and how you can benefit from one of her readings, please click here for more information.

James BarazI believe that everyone would like to have a little more joy and happiness in their lives.  In my interview with James Baraz we explore the 10 steps that James believes will help us in claiming our joy.

In James new book entitled, “Awakening Joy–10 Steps That Will Put You on the Road to Real Happiness“, we explore the elements that are important to having more joy and happiness in life.  James states that you can decide to be happy.  For years, James’ online Awakening Joy course has offered participants from around the world the benefits of this simple but profoundly radical proposition.  Grounded in simple Buddhist principles but accessible to people of all faiths—or no faith at all–this concept provides the jumping-off point for a transformational journey toward a richer, more meaningful, more positive outlook on life.

Now readers everywhere can follow the same ten steps James teaches to his program participants.  In this down to earth guide, you will learn how to

  • make  happiness a habit by inclining your mind toward states that lead to well-being.
  • find joy even during difficult times and avoid the pitfalls that prevent you from achieving the contentment you seek.
  • cultivate effective practices for sustaining joyfulness, such as reclaiming your natural sense of wonder and finding joy in the midst of everyday life.

If you are seeking more joy and happiness in your life, and would like to understand some very valuable steps that can assist you in claiming the joy that is your right, then I highly recommend that you read James’ new book, “Awakening Joy–10 Steps That Will Put You on the Road to Real Happiness“.  You will thoroughly enjoy our interview, while learning more about the steps toward joy.  Please go to James’ website by clicking here for more information on his workshop, book and videos.

Elisha GoldsteinI thoroughly enjoyed my interview with Elisha Goldstein the co-author with Bob Stahl of, “A Mindfulness-Based Stress Reductions Workbook“.  This new book is a wonderful guide and playbook for anyone who is seeking to understand the how’s of mindfulness.

Elisha Goldstein and Bob Stahl don’t just write about why the practice of mindfulness is beneficial for you, they really instruct you on the how’s and the benefits of mindfulness.

This book is designed for the person who really wants to integrate the practices of mindfulness in their life.   As the title states if you are having any symptoms of stress such as feeling anxious, irritability, muscle tension, burnout, apathy, restlessness, headaches, fatigue, stomach stress, difficulty in concentration, worry, overwork, substance abuse, smoking, eating problems, sleep disturbances, or feeling overwhelmed, this workbook will definitely help.   I don’t think that there is a single soul reading this blog entry that has not had at least one of these symptoms.

The authors define “mindfulness” as, the practice of cultivating nonjudgmental awareness in day-to-day life.  What a perfect definition, the key is creating nonjudgmental awareness.   This book will certainly assist anyone who wants to cultivate more joy, peace and fulfillment in the experiences of every day life.

Today mindfulness has expanded beyond its spiritual roots and even beyond psychology and mental and emotional well-being.  Physicians are prescribing training in mindfulness practices to help people deal with stress, pain and illness. Mindfulness has entered the mainstream in the West and is becoming a very popular practice.

If you would like to learn from the masters, then this book is a great place to start.  I highly recommend this book for both the beginner and the experienced practitioner alike.  You can also learn more about Elisha Goldstein by clicking here to be taken to his website.

Please enjoy this wonderful interview with a true master teacher in the field of mindfulness.

Daniel G. Amen M.D.I have had the personal pleasure of having met Dr. Daniel Amen on several occasions, and I am here to say that he is the real thing.  What I mean is that he practices what he preaches.

In his new book entitled, “Change Your Brain, Change Your Body”, he explains why your brain is the most important instrument to master if you are going to control your weight. I know that this all sounds simple, and you might be saying to yourself I don’t need to read a book to tell me that I need to learn how to control my impulses to control my weight, but believe it is more than just learning how to control your impulses.

In my interview with Dr. Amen we discuss what causes cravings, and improves energy and sustains your ability to loose weight and keep it off.  As Dr. Amen states your brain is involved in everything you do, and when your brain works right your body looks and feels better.  You literally are what you eat. Throughout your lifetime, your body is continually making and renewing its cells, even brain cells. Your skin cells make themselves new every thirty days. Food fuels cell growth and regeneration.  What you consume on a daily basis directly affects the health of your brain and body, and proper nutrition is the key.  Dr. Amen states that if you have a fast-food diet, you will have a fast-food brain, and an overweight body.

Here are the (11) Rules for Brain-Body Healthy Nutrition:

1) Drink plenty of water, some green tea and not too many calories.

2) Watch your calories.

3) Increase good fats and decrease bad fats.

4) Increase good carbs and decrease bad carbs.

5) Dump artificial sweeteners and replace them with small amounts of natural sweeteners.

6) Limit caffeine intake.

7) Eat great brain foods.

8)  Reduce salt intake and increase potassium intake.

9) Plan snacks.

10) Take a daily multivitamin/mineral supplement and fish oil.

11) Recognize if you or someone you care about has hidden food allergies.

I highly encourage my listeners to obtain a copy of Dr. Amen’s new book, “Change Your Brain, Change Your Body“.   This book truly can change your life if you choose to implement the strategies that Dr. Amen so articulately lays out for the reader.

For more information please visit the Amen Clinic website by clicking here.  Enjoy this interview with a truly knowledgeable author on how your brain effects your body and what you choose to put in it.

Deb ShapiroI have had the wonderful pleasure of being able to interview Deb Shapiro again.  My first interview was with Deb and her husband Ed about their new book entitled “Be The Change”.

In this podcast I will be speaking with Deb about her new book entitled, ” Your Body Speaks Your Mind“.  This new book address the mind body connection, and the role that our mind plays in your overall well being.  Wellness is primarily a state of mind, and your emotions play an important role in how you feel.

Dis-ease manifests itself in various ways within our bodies and what Deb Shapiro outlines in her book is the importance of understanding our mind/body connection.

She utilizes real life stories to help the reader understand the various ways that our body reacts to our mental conditions.  She states “As you think so you become: your thoughts and words are like seeds that germinate and grow. Your state of health shows how you have been thinking: the seeds take root and begin to influence the shape the cell structures of your physical body.  When you think of illness–or life–as being out of your control, or as an obstacle that you cannot overcome, then none of your physical energy will be directed toward healing, as no “living” message will be sent to your body.”

When illness–or living is seen as a learning experience, an opportunity to deepen your relationship with yourself, then healing is possible. The most common blocks are negative attitudes that a lot of people carry around all the time.  Deb states in order to become healed, a person has to throw out hatred, envy, jealousy and other destructive attitudes and feelings.  Although such factors start within the mind, they quickly manifest in our body, becoming a stiff shoulder, a sluggish liver, cancer or other illnesses.

If you want to better understand the mind/body connection then I encourage you to listen to this wonderful podcast with Deb Shapiro.  You can also get all sorts of useful information by visiting her website by clicking here.

To your good health!!!!!
