I had an opportunity to connect again with Lance Secretan, someone I consider a good friend and confidant.  His new book entitled ” A Love Story” is a personal memoir about his wonderful love relationship with his wife Tricia who passed away in 2014 from cancer.  Lance laces the book with wonderful poetry and stories about this amazing love affair, which he wishes everyone could have with that special someone in their life.  Tricia had a full and wonderful life with Lance, and she certainly made him whole and complete in so many ways.

I hope you enjoy this intensely personal story and interview with my good friend and author Lance Secretan and he recites beautiful poetry and tells us about a journey with his wife that will ever be imbedded in his memories.  If you want more information about the book ” A Love Story” please click here to be directed to Lance’s blog.  Or you can click here to learn more about Lance and his organization “The Secretan Center.”

Lance Secretan It was my distinct honor to do this podcast with Lance Secretan.  This is my second interview with Lance since we first met over six years ago at a Spirit in Business conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico.  I have always admired Lance’s style and inspiring presentations.  If you want to be inspired then I encourage you to read his new book entitled, “The Spark the Flame and the Torch-Inspire Self, Inspire Others, Inspire the World.

Lance is certainly a man on a mission, and his new book will ignite the Spark within you.  The premise of this book is that all inspired and inspiring people-including leaders–have deep inner clarity about three of life’s great questions:

1) What is the purpose of my life?

2) How will I inspire and lead?

3) How will create and share my wisdom and create a legacy?

Believe me if every soul on this planet could wrap their minds and hearts around these three questions our collective world would be a better place.

The Spark, the Flame and the Torch is a manual for life and work–and a guide to transforming every aspect of our personal and organizational lives into inspiring experiences. As we discuss in our interview together, we are emerging from the dark era of leadership.  Between 1987 and 2009 the level of job satisfaction plummeted from a satisfaction level of 61% to 45%, and the numbers of people who found their work interesting dropped from 70% to 51%.  In my interview with Lance he provides insight into why this is happening, and articulates steps we can take personally as well as leaders to improve these statistics.

There is no denying that as I write this blog entry we are in the middle of a recession, and a relatively protracted one at that.  People are hurting financially, spiritually and emotionally.  As reported by Time Magazine we are emerging from the “Decade From Hell”.  No doubt we are yearning for a brighter future with more meaning and fulfillment.   If you are ready to embark on this personal transformation to a better life, then you will want to read Lance’s new book ” The Spark, the Flame and the Torch“.

I encourage you to visit Lance’s website and take his PLEDGE to become an inspiring person.  His website is loaded with references, sample chapters and discussion groups.

Lance Secretan I first met Lance Secretan many years ago at a Spirit in Business conference in Santa Fe, NM. I remember being quite impressed with his presentation on the CASTLE principals. In my podcast with Lance we discuss the CASTLE principals in depth. CASTLE is an acronym which stands for Courage, Authenticity, Service, Truthfulness, Love and Effectiveness. These principals may sound simple in concept, but not as easy to integrate into our lives and businesses.

The focus of his new book is about the new leader for the 21st century. Lance discusses how we have become detached from our innate sense of oneness which creates “separateness thinking.” He explains how this separateness thinking has created many of the problems both in our business and personal lives. One: The Art and Practice of Conscious Leadership will help the reader explore new refreshing ideas about leadership and find ways to create a greater sense of connectedness. Understanding the CASTLE principles has lead many to exceptional personal growth, and has transformed the lives of thousands. If you would like to lead your life more consciously and become more connected to the people at your work and at home, One: The Art and Practice of Conscious Leadership outlines the principles of Courage, Authenticity, Service, Truthfulness, Love and Effectiveness and they are definitely worth reviewing and considering for integration into your personal values as a leader.

I love how Lance ends his book with an invitation to join his community. He quotes the lines by John Lennon’s ode to oneness, Imagine:

You may say I’m a dreamer,
but I’m not the only one,

I hope some day you’ll join us,
And the world will live as one.

If you want to reawaken personally as a leader and build strong communities of support and oneness, then Lance’s book “One” The Art and Practice of Conscious Leadership is a must read. For more information on Lance Secretan’s workshops, retreats and blog please visit his website.
