Daniel G. Amen M.D.I have had the personal pleasure of having met Dr. Daniel Amen on several occasions, and I am here to say that he is the real thing.  What I mean is that he practices what he preaches.

In his new book entitled, “Change Your Brain, Change Your Body”, he explains why your brain is the most important instrument to master if you are going to control your weight. I know that this all sounds simple, and you might be saying to yourself I don’t need to read a book to tell me that I need to learn how to control my impulses to control my weight, but believe it is more than just learning how to control your impulses.

In my interview with Dr. Amen we discuss what causes cravings, and improves energy and sustains your ability to loose weight and keep it off.  As Dr. Amen states your brain is involved in everything you do, and when your brain works right your body looks and feels better.  You literally are what you eat. Throughout your lifetime, your body is continually making and renewing its cells, even brain cells. Your skin cells make themselves new every thirty days. Food fuels cell growth and regeneration.  What you consume on a daily basis directly affects the health of your brain and body, and proper nutrition is the key.  Dr. Amen states that if you have a fast-food diet, you will have a fast-food brain, and an overweight body.

Here are the (11) Rules for Brain-Body Healthy Nutrition:

1) Drink plenty of water, some green tea and not too many calories.

2) Watch your calories.

3) Increase good fats and decrease bad fats.

4) Increase good carbs and decrease bad carbs.

5) Dump artificial sweeteners and replace them with small amounts of natural sweeteners.

6) Limit caffeine intake.

7) Eat great brain foods.

8)  Reduce salt intake and increase potassium intake.

9) Plan snacks.

10) Take a daily multivitamin/mineral supplement and fish oil.

11) Recognize if you or someone you care about has hidden food allergies.

I highly encourage my listeners to obtain a copy of Dr. Amen’s new book, “Change Your Brain, Change Your Body“.   This book truly can change your life if you choose to implement the strategies that Dr. Amen so articulately lays out for the reader.

David Simon M.D. In my interview with Dr. David Simon, we explore his new book entitled, “Free to Love Free to Heal: Heal Your Body by Healing Your Emotions”. The purpose behind writing this book was quite simply to help people identify and release the impediments in their ability to give and receive love.

Our ability to give and receive love influences every aspect of our life, including our health.  Dr. Simon shows you how to identify and release the core beliefs and painful memories that contribute to emotional distress and physical illness–freeing you to heal and move beyond the restricting conditions that have been limiting your health and happiness.

As Dr. Simon explains, emotional pain takes many forms: the grief of loss, overwhelming stress and anxiety, major or chronic depression, job burnout, feelings of stuck or trapped, heart break, lingering guilt, regret, fear of trusting again, pent-up anger, worry about the future or shame from the past. In the face of difficulty, most of us do our best to cope with the situation, hold it together and keep going, but we often end up carrying emotional pain that we just don’t know how to heal or release.

This toxic emotional residue gets stored in our bodily tissues, contribution to distress, and ultimately disease. The “Free to Love” process is a systematic process for releasing stored emotional toxicity, restoring the body’s innate capacity for healing and well-being.

Free to Love, Free to Heal is a powerful five-step emotional detoxification process that has helped thousands of people coping with a wide range of difficulties.  If you are personally suffering from the emotional challenges caused by stress, anxiety, fear and depression, then I encourage you to read Dr. Simon’s book for he takes an in-depth look at the mind-body-spirit connection.

You truly can heal your body by healing your emotions, and Free to Love, Free to Heal provides you with the practical tools including the “Seven Laws of Loving Relationships”.

I hope you enjoy my interview with Dr. Simon, and for more information please visit his website by clicking here.

Sarah Maria Sarah Maria is beautiful and she used to suffer from negative body obsession.  It is difficult to believe that this outgoing, gregarious woman thought that she was too fat.

Her new book entitled, “Love Your Body, Love Your Life“, is as much about her personal journey as it is about providing both men and women with the tools to help end this obsession.

In our interview together we discuss the five steps to end negative body obsession and start living happily and confidently.  Sarah says if you are struggling, you are not alone.  80-90 percent of women and a growing number of men dislike their physical appearance. Body hatred has become an epidemic of unfathomable proportion in this culture.  It is no wonder considering how our media emphasizes beauty, youth and remaining forever young.

Sarah says beyond the physical and emotional costs of negative body obsession lies the damage done on the spiritual front.  She states that tremendous suffering occurs when you are unaware of your spiritual truth.  Living with negative body obsession prevents you from experiencing who you really are.  It deprives you of your fundamental experience of living your life fully and with limitless potential.

Purpose can literally help people stay alive.  Sarah says to discover who you really are and to discover your purpose and to live it.  Those of you suffering from eating disorders or intense emotional struggles probably know, continued abuse of your body and mind can lead to precarious life-and-death situations. Finding a sense of purpose, however helps those stuck in these very dark horrific places.

I encourage you to listen to this interview and to visit Sarah’s website by clicking here.  Her new book has great advice, and her workshops and information about her personal body consulting can be accessed at the website as well.  Enjoy our interview together.

Pilar GerasimoI normally reserve my interviews to authors of books on personal growth, mastery and wellness.  I know that this particular podcast guest has not written a book , but as the editor of Experience Life Magazine her contributions monthly to the development and distribution of this magazine are amazing.

In the nine years she has been with the magazine her responsibilities have been to oversee and make sure that hundreds if not thousands of quality articles are written and published in the areas of health, wellness, nutrition and personal/spiritual growth.

I first met Pilar Gerasimo at the Bioneers Conference in San Rafael, CA about five years ago.  Since our first meeting we have developed a friendship that is glued together by our common passion for wellness and health.

Pilar takes personal pride in every issue and each article written for Experience Life Magazine.  It is probably one of the best magazines I have ever seen on fitness, health and wellness. Pilar and her team do an amazing job each month putting together engaging and informative stories to assist the reader in understanding ways to improve their health and interconnect the body, mind and soul for a balanced lifestyle.

Victoria MoranIf you want an author that walks her talk then Victoria Moran’s new book entitled, “The Love-Powered Diet” is a must read for anyone who is looking to release weight.  You see as a young adult Victoria was the daughter of a mother and father that were in the weight loss business, and Victoria was about 60 lbs over weight.

Her new book is all about how if you look inside yourself, and learn how to appreciate who you really are that this is the beginning of a successful weight release program.  Now, this is not to say that you can just love yourself and the pounds will just melt away. The psychological aspects of weight release are just as complicated if not more so than calorie reduction and exercise.

The “Love-Powered Diet” addresses a duel dilemma: the addictive nature of overeating and the nutritional shortfalls of the standard American diet.  It offers solutions for both.

The Love-Powered Diet is really simple, and it distills down to two parts.  (1) Inner awareness of unconditional love can make profound changes in a person’s life. (2) Inner change includes the ability to make positive, loving food choices.

I highly recommend this book, and I know you are going to love my interview with Victoria.  If you would like to learn more about Victoria’s other books and her appearances please click here to access her website.

Have fun reading this book, it is all about how much you can love yourself to health and wellness.

Stephen Bizal D.C.I was introduced to Dr. Stephen Bizal thorough a good friend and fellow author Jon Forrest.  I had the pleasure of going up to Irvine, CA to meet with Dr. Bizal, America’s Wellness “Go-To” Guy a few months back.  Dr. Bizal has spent most of his entire life helping people transform their lives through looking at their lives in a more holistic way.  His new book entitled ” The Optimal Life” really does a masterful job of explaining the mind-body-spirit-emotional connection to health.

As Dr. Bizal explains in our interview together, your optimal life is not a mystery.  Living a pain-free, disease-free and medication-free life is possible. Most roadblocks to achieving optional health and healing are due to (1) lack of motivation (2) lack of understanding (3) lack of motivation and lack of understanding.

In Dr. Bizal’s book “The Optimal Life” what is revealed to you is that (1) the body heals itself (2) there are non physical as well at physical forces that influence our health and govern the healing process (3) humans are wholistic (4) we are each 100% responsible and accountable for our experience of life, including our experience of health.

Dr. Bizal utilizes a wonderful Wholistic Health Model to explain how dis-ease emanates.  It is probably the best explanation that I have heard in all my years of reviewing material on wellness, health and nutrition.  He explains that at the center of everything is the heart, or the energy of love. Then on the second ring emanating out from our heart center is our emotional state.  On the third ring emanating out from our heart center is our mind, which is where we hold our beliefs about our self. Then completing the model on the most outward ring is our body, which is the air, H2O, Light, nutrition, physical activity.  This wholistic model really sums it up for me, and that is our health is a direct connection to our spirit, love and how we treat ourselves and others in our life.  Our spiritual practices is so important to a healthy life, and living with vitality.

Dr. Bizal has a great quote in his book from Ramacharaka, from the book Yesudian and Haich, Yoga and Health.  It states ” Nature never wanted man to leave his body before advance old age, and if only everyone would obey the laws of nature form his childhood on, instead of constantly working against them, the death of human beings through disease in their youth or middle age would be as rare as death by violence.”

If you would like to learn about the universal principles that govern health, then I highly recommend that you read and study Dr. Bizal’s book.  You can also learn more about his wellness coaching and training by clicking here to access his website.

I hope you enjoy this brief look into the the mind of a master on wellness coaching.
