Podcast 43: Joan Borysenko and Gordon Dveirin on “Your Soul’s Compass”

I first became acquainted with Joan’s work as a result of reading Dr. Herbert Benson’s book the, “Relaxation Response”. I ultimately found out from Joan that she and Dr. Benson co-founded the Mind Body Institute which is part of the Harvard Medical School. Joan is the author of more that 12 best selling books and lectures and facilitates workshops worldwide.

On a recent trip to Boulder, CO, I had the pleasure of meeting Joan along with a couple of her colleagues. We had the opportunity to briefly discuss her new book entitled, “Your Soul’s Compass: What Is Spiritual Guidance?“, co authored with her husband Gordon Dveirin. I must admit that this is one of the best podcasts I have completed, for I was intrigued by the research they both had completed with the Sages to have written this book. They consulted over 27 Sages from diverse wisdom tradition to explore the nature of spirituality guidance. What they found out is that several themes emerged from their research. First, that there’s no map no definitive “10 steps” for the journey of becoming fully human–what Joan and Gordon call Homo sapiens caritas ( a person of wisdom and compassion). But what they did find out is that there are guiding principles that can help us recognize whether or not we’re on the right track. The capacities for stillness, curiosity, comfort and uncertainty cultivate receptivity, rather than reinforcing secular or religious fundamentalism that promote rigid, in-the-box thinking.

I welcome you to join with me in listening to this wonderfully enlightening podcast with Dr. Joan Borysenko and Gordon Dveirin on, “Your Soul’s Compass”. During this podcast I explore with Joan and Gordon insightful questions about what the Sages taught them and how we can apply this wisdom and understanding to our everyday life. So if you are seeking greater understanding about your path of mastery, then this podcast is a must listen.

Podcast 37: Idea Mapping with Jamie Nast

I do not know how many of you have been exposed to the concept of, “Idea Mapping“, but it is a wonderful way to collect and organize your thoughts. I personally started Idea Mapping about 10 years ago and have been using the process ever since. I happen to run across Jamie Nast’s Idea Mapping while doing a search on Amazon. I called up Jamie and asked her if she would be interested in doing this podcast and she gracefully accepted.

Jamie is one of the foremost consultants on Idea Mapping and has a wonderful knowledge of the process and how it can assist you both professionally and personally. Idea Mapping, as she refers to it, is a process using either software or colored pens and paper to capture your ideas and thoughts without binding you to a linear process as we learned in college while note taking. We don’t think linearly so why would we want to capture our thoughts and ideas that way?

Idea Mapping frees the mind and opens up the unlimited possibilities of creativity and innovation. It is a wonderful process and something that I highly recommend to my listeners to learn more about. Jamie’s new book entitled, ” Idea Mapping: How to Access Your Hidden Brain Power, Learn Faster, Remember More, and Achieve Success in Business“, is simple to read and packed full of examples and methods to get you started. She has even included a CD from MindJet which is a 21-day free trial software for both Mac and PC.

Jamie NastIf you wish to achieve greater success, learn faster and capture your ideas to be organized for monumental personal and professional growth, then I highly recommend Idea Mapping by Jamie Nast. You can find out more about Jamie, her courses, books and trainings by clicking here.

Podcast 36: The Big Book of Small Business with Tom Gegax

I first met Tom Gegax at a Spirit in Business Conference in Santa Fe, New Mexico about 9 years ago. He was one of the featured speakers at the event and I thoroughly enjoyed his subject and content of his talk. I have followed Tom off and on over the last nine years and contacted his office recently to do this podcast about his new book, “The Big Book of Small Business: You Don’t Have to Run Your Business by the Seat of Your Pants.”
Tom has quite a history as a entrepreneur having started one of the largest retail automotive tire businesses called, Tires Plus. By the time Tom sold Tires Plus to a multinational firm in 2000, it had mushroomed from a sketch on a restaurant napkin to a Midwest market leader with over 150 locations.

If you are an entrepreneur running a business of any size you are going to enjoy this podcast with Tom, because Tom knows what it’s like to run a business with over 1500 employees. Tom has learned how to get the most out of his people and run a world class organization. But more importantly, he learned through his near death experience with cancer how to put his life in perspective and focus on what is important, his own personal growth. Resolved to turn things around, he improved his mental clarity, health and relationships. He noticed that the more he profited on a personal level, the more his company profited. His big lesson from cancer was the challenge as to how he would become more of an “Enlightened Leader”. What he learned was that the more he focused on the well-being of his employees and customers,(as well as his own well being), than naturally his own success followed.

I would like you to set back, relax and learn from a very wise businessmen. Tom will share his insights into the hard learned lessons as to becoming an enlightened and effective leader and on how to do the small things right so the big decisions work.

Podcast 27: In the Dreaming Room with Michael Gerber

It is with great pleasure that I bring you this interview with Michael Gerber. The focus of this podcast is on his soon to be released book entitled, “Awakening the Entrepreneur Within: How Ordinary People Can Create Extraordinary Companies.” For years, Michael Gerber has been known for his work around the E-Myth. He has transformed over 50,000 entrepreneurs lives through helping them develop systems to duplicate themselves and grow their businesses. He invented, as he puts it, “the Mc Donald’s of small business consulting.”

Michael emphasizes the main reason that small businesses fail is not because their dream is too big, but rather too small and too realistic—it isn’t big enough to sustain more life. In my interview with him we explore what happens when a entrepreneur is impassioned with an idea and a dream. We discussed what happens when he or she wakes up inside and is on fire about their new dream and defines their vision, mission and purpose around the dream to manifest it bring it into reality.

Michael has created this new place that entrepreneurs can practice a new kind of dreaming something he refers to as “Intentional Dreaming.” It has nothing to do with problem solving and everything to do with transforming your whole life and business in a radically creative and strategic way.

Michael GerberI was thoroughly mesmerized by Michael’s energy and passion for the new venture he has embarked upon. In our interview together, you can sense his passion for helping people. I know you will enjoy his ideas, wisdom and advice throughout this podcast. I encourage you to visit his web site by clicking here to learn more about his books, workshops, CD’s.

Podcast 19: The Art of Original Thinking with Jan Phillips

The Art of Original Thinking: The Making of a Thought Leader I first met Jan Phillips about eighteen months ago at a workshop that she was facilitating. The workshop was entitled “The Original Think” Seminar titled after her new book “The Art of Original Thinking: The Making of a Thought Leader“. I immediately fell in love with Jan and her philosophies about life. She is definitely an out of the box thinker. I love people who are continual learners and enjoy exploring new ways of seeing the world.

In her new book “The Art of Original Thinking: The Making of a Thought Leader“, Jan is a masterful storyteller as well as a visionary thinker testing how we think, and bringing greater awareness by asking us to explore deep personal questions about our assumptions. Jan does not waste anytime in her first chapter as she focuses on freeing ourselves from illusion. She states that illusions are false beliefs. They are notions and ideas that we have inherited from our culture, our families, and almost every institution which we’ve been associated. She states that to be thought leaders we need to be free and original thinkers, capable of focusing on how we are thinking as well as what we are thinking.

The premise of this book is to advance the evolution of thought, of human sensibility, of our own personal potential to be more than anyone ever said we could be. Its intention is to inspire thought leaders who are willing to be visible, vocal agents of evolutionary thinking for global good. The focus is the triple bottom line: People, Planet and Profits. A quote from the book from Paul Hawken, “Business is the only mechanism on the planet today powerful enough to produce the changes necessary to reverse global environmental and social degradation”, is so accurate. I hope that this book and podcast will inspire you to take action, to question your thoughts and assumptions and create a future for yourself and others that is filled with hope, inspiration and positive change.

Jan Phillips My podcast is a powerful interview with a fascinating woman who is on a mission to assist others in changing their thinking and create greater awareness. To become thought leaders requires that we liberate ourselves from the old modes of thinking so that we can release our imaginations and live more authentically. Jan’s book explores how you can release the past, embrace the present and create a better future. I highly recommend this wonderful book. I know that it will change your life, and the lives of everyone with who you working with and are in relationships with.
